The celebratory dinner will take place here (yes, there will be speeches), followed by a ceilidh in the evening. We'll be staying the night there, but it's not the only accommodation available in the area.
The ceilidh (traditional Scottish dancing) will start about 9.00 pm and will probably go on until around 12.30 pm with a break halfway through. Don't worry if you are a ceilidh virgin; each dance will be explained by the Caller beforehand, usually accompanied by a slow demonstration, then, during the dance itself, the sequence of moves will be announced by the Caller (it's a bit like energetic line dancing with more spinning, but don't tell anybody we said that). The dances usually require couples or sets of people, but in most dances you swap partners frequently. As befits Scottish tradition, copious consumption of alcohol is a pre-requisite.
If you are interested in learning more about ceilidh dancing have a look at this website, but don't feel that you need to start taking lessons or anything.
The ceilidh band also play a mixture of 50-60s music as well, so will probably mix in a few of these to break up the dancing when people start to flag.
The Invercarse Hotel is about two miles from Dundee city centre, and overlooks the river Tay. The hotel carpark, located directly behind the hotel, is reasonably large so there should be sufficient parking.
